Lets Talk About Soil
The Soil Story
The Lets Talk About Soil Video was very intersting because it talked about the importance of soil in our daily lives. I also learned about soil formation and how it comes from rock. I think its very important to know where soil comes from.
I was very surprised that in 2000 years, 10cm of fertile soil is made and that is a particularly long time. That point illustrates the importance of soil preservation. I also understood the link with soil and other envrionmental issues such as deforestations because forests and agriculture also protect the soil. This leaves room for soil erosion as well, which is a tremendous person. A person loses $70 a year due to erosion, which adds up to a lot as well.
I was also introduced to the socio-ecomonic problems related to soil - people cut down forests because they need the land to live on and farm, and there is not enough for everyone.
The Lets Talk About Soil Video was very intersting because it had a chemisty like take on it. It talked about the importance of carbon in the soil.
The video was also general with regards to it mentioning ocean acidification and many other things that are linked to the use of carbon.
It went on to talk about how we can utilise the extra carbon we hate in our atmosphere to get the results we need. Plants take up the carbon from the soil and use it for the soil
I learned how the use of compost can bring in more carbon for the soil and that was
I really liked the video because I thought that its a good solution to the carbon problem that we have. We can remove carbon from the atmosphere and put it into the soil and it will benefit our food production and farming purposes.
